Description
This work is based on the working Cornish harbour of Porthleven, in particular the Old Lifeboat House which has been turned into a studio. Every year I get to paint for a week with a small group of artists in this purpose built studio and exhibition space which was in a former life, the lifeboat launching station. The studio is built into one of the outer harbour walls in Porthleven, and as you can imagine the space is extraordinary, surrounded by rocks and sea on three sides and extremely atmospheric and inspirational. For this picture, I specifically used a technique of mixing oil paint with medium and then pouring directly onto the canvas to create the essence of fluidity, comparable to the subject matter. Paint has also been applied wet on wet using various implements.
I am delighted to say that this painting was selected and hung in the Bath Society of Artists’ 116th Annual Open Exhibition October 2021.
