As a lifelong swimmer and ex water polo player, swimming pools have always been wonderful places to me especially if they are outdoors, as well of course, as the sea. In Cornwall there are two outdoor pools that have inspired me in particular: – the tidal sea water swimming pool in Bude, and the Lido in Penzance which as well as having a large seawater pool has a fabulous little geothermal pool as well. The Lido is a wonderful Art Deco Structure jutting out into the sea. I have swum in both pools in the Lido on several delightful occasions (although only very briefly in the cold seawater pool) and done numerous sketches of the pools and their surrounds. This painting is based specifically on the geothermal pool and is currently the third one of the series. This painting is currently on show in the Galleri Soho in Sweden, so if you are interested in purchasing it please be aware that delivery could take a bit longer.
