January – February Newsletter 2025

At work outside the Studio
I do realise January is now over, however, I would still like to wish you all a wonderful 2025 and apologies for not sending my newsletter out a bit earlier. Recovering from Xmas and the very cold weather (well at least very cold for me), this January, seems to have taken me a bit longer than usual.  This year 2025 will have the usual Open Studios and our exhibition in Henley, and also hopefully, a small exhibition in the Galleri Soho in Sweden possibly in April, so all quite exciting.
The Penzance Lido in Cornwall (see image above) is a wonderful Art Deco structure jutting out into the sea, it has an enormous unheated seawater pool and a small but gorgeous geothermal pool (temperature 35 degrees Centigrage).  I have swum in both pools on a number of delightful occasions (although only very briefly in the cold seawater pool) and done numerous sketches of the pools and their surrounds.  Here are three small (30 x 40 cms) oil on canvases primarily focussed on the geothermal section.

“The Day Before the Eclipse”, “Waiting for the Eclipse” & “After the Eclipse”, all oil on canvas 46 x 61 cms & 50 x 50 cms.
I am still producing loads of work on the amazing rock formations in the various National Parks in the States. However, I have also done 3 paintings based on our first stop in the USA which was in Dallas for the total Solar Eclipse (this has always been on my bucket list to see a total eclipse and we were terribly lucky with the weather and the cloud cover).  The first image is of the painting done looking at sketches that I did near our hotel in the centre of Dallas the day before the total solar eclipse was going to happen and the next two are just before and just after on the actual day.
